THE SONG
Grenache is my favorite because it’s adaptable, versatile, always bright and full of fruit. It’s tolerant to a wide range of growing conditions and creates a variety of great wines, ranging from rosé, to light and heavy reds. It can take oak, but it doesn’t require it.
Grenache was the very first wine I made as an independent winemaker for good reason. I always put my heart and soul into making the absolute best Grenache year after year, searching for perfection.
Vintage Notes
The Harvest began in the last week of August with early ripening varieties. The heat spikes in August and September caused some vineyards to pick varieties not typically ready at that time, which was around 10 days earlier than normal.
September into October continued to be warm yet averaging on what would be considered normal conditions. Wineries are reporting high acidity, exceptional flavor development, and deep color extraction that will all lead to a well-balanced 2020 vintage.
Vinification
Fermented on native yeast, 15% whole cluster, on skin for 14-18 days. Aged in 40% new Hungarian oak barrels, 40% once used French oak, and 20% neutral oak for 28 months.
Tasting Notes
100% Grenache from two vineyards– Paper Street and G2 Vineyard. These were the very best Grenache barrels of the 2020 vintage. On the nose, candied lavender, spices such as cinnamon, bergamot, and cloves.
Swirl the glass to reveal hints of strawberry purée and toasted caramel. The palate introduces cherry, leather, christmas spices, and caramel drizzled on top of strawberries. This Grenache finishes long with mint, warm spices and lingering crushed limestone.
