THE SONG

Jay-Z puts a new twist on a classic song with “Young Forever” … the instrumentals in the background are an unmistakable hit from an era gone by, perhaps even a song you (or your parents) danced to at the high school prom. But Jay-Z’s nostalgic lyricism brings new life to this old classic, the same way the carbonic maceration method brings a fresh expression to an ancient grape varietal like Cabernet Franc.

Vintage Notes

2020 is showing exceptional quality amid a challenging year. Yields were varietally dependent, with an average of 10-30% down. Grape quality across the board is excellent with intense flavor  development and great color. Budbreak came a little on the late side due to late-season rainfall.

Zero frost issues hampered the beginning of bud break which was followed by a temperate May and June. July proved to be cooler than average, which helped flowering happen under good conditions and strengthen vine health. Conditions changed in August and September, which were warmer than average. Harvest began in the last week of August.

Tasting Notes

This wine, vinified via carbonic maceration, isn’t your typical porch pounder with a light red body that you grab from the fridge on a hot day. It’s full bodied and complex, taking advantage of the carbonic method’s inclination to show an unmistakable gumdrop character that underpins loads of small fruits, like cherry, raspberry, blue and blackberries on first encounter.

Delving deeper into a taste of Young Forever, a bouquet of florals presents you with hints of lavender, jasmine, saffron and rose petals, finally finishing with a potpourri of dried herbs. Drink now or later, chilled or not. Young Forever will meet you where you are.
